Master of the Amateurs Tournament

The club hosted the Australian Master of the Amateurs tournament between 7 and 10 January and the event was a resounding success.
126 of the world’s leading amateur golfers contest the 72 hole strokeplay championship with 75 participants travelling from 22 countries.
Just prior to the event starting 12 millimetres of rain fell and the greens at the start were quite receptive and with no breeze, low scoring was always possible. On day two Queensland sixteen year old Lion Higo equalled the course record when she scored a stunning 62 that included a hole-in-one.
Three VGC members participated – Steph Bunque was in striking distance before having to withdraw from the final round due to illness, Konrad Ciupek finished tied 34th and Kono Matsumoto missed the cut.
The players were incredibly excited to be playing at VGC and were glowing in their praise of the course.
