Update – 15.03.2023 – Nadene Gole Wins NSW Senior Amateur Championship

Nadene Gole validated her ranking as the world No. 1 Senior Women’s Amateur golfer after an impressive six-shot victory at the NSW Senior Amateur Championship. Nadene posted three sub-70 scores to record her fourth state title in six months. Staged over two layouts south of Sydney, Gole fired rounds of 2-under 69 (Wollongong GC), 1-under 69 & 2-under 68 (Links Shell Cove) for a 5-under total. Wyong’s Louise Mullard, who won this event in 2020, was runner up. Defending champion Sue Wooster finished in third place.

Gole and Mullard were engaged in an arm wrestle for most of the contest. The joint 18-hole and 36-hole leaders remained deadlocked through 11 holes on the final round until Mullard took a narrow one-shot lead with her birdie at the 12th hole. With the title up for grabs, Gole bounced back producing clutch back-to-back tap-in birdies at the 14th and 15th holes after striking her iron approach shots to within two feet of the cup at both holes. Nadene hoisted the coveted trophy after finishing with three consecutive pars to sign for a stunning final round of 68 and reach 5-under for the tournament.

With the win, Gole is projected to stretch her lead as world No. 1 senior women’s amateur golfer.

VGC Member Nadene Gole became World No. 1 Senior Women’s Amateur Golfer after the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) were updated on Feb 22. Nadene vaulted to the coveted position with her victory last week at the New Zealand Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.

During the last six months, she has contested seven WAGR events sanctioned by the R&A and USGA with four wins, one runner up and two third places.
